A West Coast IPA with Nectaron, Galaxy, Nelson Sauvin (Cryo) and Abstrax Omni Galaxy (extract) hops.
Recipe for this post can be found here.
Appearance
Pours with about 3/4” of white foam that has great retention and lacing. The beer is crystal clear (it’s been in the keg for about 10 days at this point). It has a pale straw color with visible carbonation bubbles.
Aroma
As like my last West Coast IPA where I used Abstrax hops at kegging time, the beer can be smelled from a mile away. It has a candied tropical aroma along with notes of white grape and dankness.
Taste/Mouthfeel
Light in body with a crisp mouthfeel and medium carbonation. It’s got a roller coast of flavor starting with the tropical notes, then rolling into some passion fruit and finally a moderate bitterness in the finish. There is a very sublte sweet malt character throughout that really exemplifies the hops.
Impressions
This beer is really easy to drink and is bursting with hop flavor. I really like the new grain bill of 75% Pilsner, 15% Pale and 10% Vienna that I’ve used on this batch and the previous. It doesn’t get in the way of the hops but still provides a very subtle malt character.
Honestly, I’m not sure if I’d change anything about this recipe. It’s really delicious. I”m looking forward to trying out other hop combinations with this grain bill in the future.
